1. 04 Nov 1954 Foundation stone laid by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
2. Nov 1954 Ist Basic Course for men commences.
3. Jun 1955 Advance course for men starts with 12 boys.
4. Jul 1955 HMI team scales 25447ft mt. Kamet, the 1st success.
5. Nov 1955 Institute Shifted from Roy Villa to Brich Hill.
6. Jul 1956 HMI team scales Sakang (1st Indian ascent).
7. Mar 1958 HMI team scales Cho-Oyu (Ist ascent).
8. Apr 1961 1st Basic Course for women starts with 23 girls.
9. Apr 1962 1st Advance Course for women starts with 7 girls and Fray Peak over 20,000 ft.
10. Nov 1962 HMI team scales Rathong Peak (6679 M).
11. May 1963 Nawang Gombhu scales Mt. Everest.
12. May 1964 First adventure Course for boys commence with 31 boys.
13. May 1965 Adventure course for girls commence with 20 students.
14. May 1965 Nawang Gombhu the first personin the world to scale Mt. Everest twice.
15. May 1976 Tenzing Norgay retires and appointed as advisior to HMI. Nawng Gombhu appointed as a DFT.
 
16. May 1984 Dorjee Lhatoo Bachinderi pal Scale Mt. Everest under Brig DK Khullar Principal of HMI.
17. Apr 1985 HMI starts first coursefor Visuaaly handicapped Persons.
18. May 1986 Tenzing Norgay Breathes his Last.
19. Sep 1986 1st MOI course Commences
20. Oct 1991 Shri R. Venkataraman, Hon’ble president of India Visits HMI.
21. May 1993 HMI Instructor Nima Norbu scales Mt. Everest.
22. May 1993 Kusang sherpa and Kunga Bhutia scale Mt. Everest.
23. Nov 2001 7th national sports Climbing Competition conducted by HMI.
24. May 2003 HMI team scales Mt. Everest from North Face.
25. Oct 2004 Col Js Dhillon, SM* Principal HMI 7355M Abi Gamin and becomes the oldest Indian to climb so high.
26. May 2009

HMI creates history by climbing Mt makalu 8 for 63 meters the 5th highest Mountain in the world as first Indian Ascent.

27. May 2009

Col Neeraj Rana creates World record by flying from Mt makalu from height of 6850 meters to advance base camp 5300 meters on a Para-Glider
