IMPORTANT PLACES ENROUTE TO TRAINNG AREA

The institute has the state of the art training facilities which are comparable with the best in the world. It has highly qualified instructors who have climbed many high mountains including Mount Everest and have many first ascents in their names. During field training the institute provide specialized and modern clothing and training equipment.

After the preliminary acclimatization and theoretical training at HMI in Darjeeling, basic, Advance and MOI courses move to the field training area at chowrikhang in west Sikkim. The trek to Base Camp is very exciting and passes through most beautiful spots of the himalayas. These are as follows:

YUKSUM
75Kms Darjeeling in west sikkim, YUKSUM is road head for our base Camp. At an altitude of 1780m, YUKSUM basks in loneliness and silence. It s a historical place, for in 17th Century, Buddhism in sikkim was first introduced here. YUSUM is a scenic spot with lakes amidst the back drop of the himalayas. It was the first capital of the Chhogyal Dynasty of Sikkim.

 

BAKHIM
Bakhim is 12 Kms from YUKSUM. Located at an altitude of 2700M among beautiful alpine plants and sikkim’s famed orchids. Several Himalayan fauna are found here. Among them are the rare varieties of birds and butterflies.

DZONGRI
DZONGRI is 14 km from BAKHIM. Climb from BAKHIM to DZONGRI is very challengingbut every efforts is worth the excellent and imposing view one gets of the Kanchenjunga alomg with the colorful Rhododendron flowers adding a romantic touch to the magical world off DZONGRI.

 
CHOWRIKHANG
CHOWRIKHANG is situated near Rathong Glacier at an altitude of 4380M. HMI base camp is here. One can see Frey. KOKTHANG, KABRU massif, Rathong, Bidhan and Palung peaks. The base camp is for training of basic course. The advance and method of instruction course use it only or their preliminary trainingtraining before going to advance base camp on Rathong Glacier. Many exciting high altitude trekking trails end at our base Camp.
